Change the Display Fields of Fiber Strands

After the database objects are added to the map, you can change the Communications Line properties. This feature is the layer with the fiber cables in it. When you work with the fiber connections later, the cables only show numbered strands, such as Fiber Cable 25: Strand(3). This nomenclature can make it hard to differentiate the strands.

To a different name for the stands, change the Display field for the Communications Line asset group so the strands use the Cable Name instead of a number. This can help keep track of each strand.

  1. In the ArcGIS Pro > Contents pane, right click Communications Line and select Properties.

  2. Click Display. In the Display Field drop down, select Cable Name and click OK.

IMPORTANT: If this change is made after a map is published, it will need to be republished to reflect the changes.

After making the change, and publishing the feature service, you can now see the names of each strand in the Fiber Connections tool. See View Fiber Connections for more information about this tool.

In this example, each strand of Fiber Cable: 25, has numbered strands. After the change, the numbered strands change to the cable name and each strand in that cable is different. Example: In the Fiber Connections tool, you can see Fiber Cable 25: Strand (3) changes to Fiber Cable: Franklin: Strand.
