Configuration Batch Scripts

Responder releases prior to 9.1.2 SP1 provided new configuration files, which required users to re-configure a number of XML files. Responder now supplies batch scripts which automate this process. A batch script is installed with each Responder component (server, client, web). These batch scripts preserve your existing configuration files and append changes that support new functionality, thus eliminating the need to manually re-configure after each new release.

After installing the Responder components, run the installed batch script for each component to automatically update the various configuration files. If you are installing Responder for the first time, this step is not necessary. Each Responder component (client, server, web) has its own batch script. Just double-click it to execute. The script will create a backup of your original file before performing the upgrade. These scripts are installed at the following locations:

  • Client: Program Files\Miner and Miner\Responder\Developer Resources\[Upgrade for current release]\Config\UpgradeClient.bat

  • Server: Program Files\Miner and Miner\Responder\Developer Resources\[Upgrade for current release]\Config\UpgradeServer.bat

  • TroubleMaker: Program Files\Miner and Miner\Responder\Developer Resources\[Upgrade for current release]\Config\UpgradeTroubleMaker.bat

  • Web: C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\Responder\Developer Resources\[Upgrade for current release]\Config\UpgradeWeb.bat. If your Inetpub directory exists on drive other than C:\, you will need to modify the UpgradeWeb.bat file to point to the correct directory.

NOTE: All releases may not require upgrade scripts for all components mentioned above. The directory will contain only the scripts necessary for the corresponding release.

There are a few cases in which you may need to manually configure these files (rather than using the batch script):

  • The batch script fails. Some customizations to the configuration files may cause the upgrade script to fail.

  • You have a release version older than 9.1.2. This functionality was introduced with 9.1.2 SP1 and only supports upgrades from 9.1.2 to 9.1.2 SP1 and beyond.

  • Batch scripts frighten you. Really, there's nothing to fear. These are friendly batch scripts.

If you need to update manually, first back up your original configuration files. Use these files to copy your previous configurations into the current configuration files. Configuration files for lease are installed in the following locations:

  • Server: Program Files\Miner and Miner\Responder\Developer Resources

  • Client: Program Files\Miner and Miner\Responder\Developer Resources

  • Web: C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\Responder\Developer Resources

Copy these files from the Developer Resources folders and paste them over your (backed-up!) original configuration files.
