Test the BCIM Module

Test the BCIM Module by Using Wired Communication

If the BCIM module is present, it is recommended to test circuit breaker communication.

Use the Modbus end-user client to test the communication network between the communicating devices of the project:

  • Circuit breakers connected to the Ethernet network through an IFE or EIFE Ethernet interface.

  • Circuit breakers connected to a Modbus serial line network from an IFM interface.

  • Circuit breakers connected to a Modbus serial line network through an IFM interface stacked to an IFE Ethernet server.

Action

With the circuit breaker in the closed position, read the Modbus Circuit Breaker Status register to check that the circuit breaker status indicates closed.

Press the opening pushbutton on the front of the circuit breaker.

Read the Modbus Circuit Breaker Status register to check that the circuit breaker status indicates open.

Test the BCIM Module by Performing Remote Control Operations

If the BCIM module is present and remote control of the circuit breaker is enabled, it is recommended to test the remote control operations.

Action

Close the circuit breaker.

Make sure the MicroLogic Active control unit and BCIM module are powered.

Connect the BCIM IO channels to external pushbuttons:

  • BCIM IO channel 1 is used for the opening action.

  • BCIM IO channel 2 is used for the closing action.

Select Open/Close on the MicroLogic Active display screen at Configuration > BCIM > IO Settings > IO Mode.

Open the circuit breaker by pressing the external pushbutton connected to BCIM IO channel 1.

Check that the circuit breaker is open.

Close the circuit breaker by pressing the external pushbutton connected to BCIM IO channel 2.

Check that the circuit breaker is closed.
