Proxy Configuration

You can think of a forward proxy as a gatekeeper between your device and the internet. Rather than talking directly to websites, your computer first sends requests to the proxy server. The proxy server analyzes the request, makes any necessary changes (like hiding your IP address or blocking certain sites), then forwards the request to the website. When the website responds, the proxy server reviews the response and sends it back to your computer, provided that everything went as expected.

First, you need to set up a proxy server in Windows. Refer to Microsoft’s Use a proxy server in Windows article for more information.

Second, Portal for ArcGIS needs configured for using a forward proxy server. Refer to Esri’s Configure your portal to use a forward proxy server article for the necessary steps.

Lastly, the forward proxy server needs configured for ArcGIS Server. Esri’s Configure a forward proxy server with ArcGIS Server article outlines the steps to follow.

IMPORTANT: It is crucial that you separately declare HTTP and HTTPS proxy IP addresses. You must include both addresses and separate them with a semicolon. The following image shows an example in Windows of the Proxy IP address settings: http=Proxy.IP:Port#;https=Proxy.IP:Port#.
