Stage the Utility Network
We are now ready to use the Stage the Utility Network tool to create the required dataset and Utility Network (UN) within your enterprise geodatabase. This is the step where the Service Territory within your asset package becomes important, as it is copied into the new feature dataset and utility network being created on the enterprise database.
To create the UN:
-
Ensure you are logged into the enterprise database with the new user created in the previous step. Read more at the Create a Database User topic. In the Geoprocessing pane, search for and open the Stage Utility Network tool.
-
From the Catalog pane, drag the enterprise database connection created with the new user login to the Target Geodatabase field.
-
In the Catalog pane, right click on Databases and select Add Database. Locate and select either the downloaded asset package, or your modified asset package reflecting any data model changes that you made in previous steps. Example:
C:\Documents\ArcFM_UN_Unbalanced_AP_22May2024.gdb -
In the same Catalog pane, under UtilityNetwork, locate the Service Territory feature class. Click and drag it to the Service Territory Feature Class field.
-
Enter the Feature Dataset Name.
We recommend ElectricNetwork.
-
Enter the Utility Network Name.
We recommend Electric.
-
Under Utility Network Version, select Current and click Run.
NOTE: If the Service Territory Feature Class field displays a red exclamation point icon and won’t allow the Run button to enable, ensure that your file path to the asset package meets the filepath character limitations. Read more on Esri’s File geodatabase size and name limits documentation.
When the tool has completed, right click on Catalog pane > Databases and select Refresh. The enterprise geodatabase now contains the basic components of the UN.
