Attributes
For new components (those added, replaced, or modified as a part of your design), you can add attributes that are pushed back to the GIS along with the design. For an example using a pole, you might add ownership information, pole coating, foundation type, manufactured year, or other properties not contained within the equipment specification.
The attribute fields depend on your company’s GIS and which fields your administrator has configured to be visible and editable. Thus, the following image is just an example, and your fields are likely different.
When adding attributes, keep the following points in mind:
-
Field names in red are required.
-
Press Tab to move to the next field, and press Shift+Tab to move to the previous field.
-
For fields with a drop-down, there are a few ways you can choose the appropriate value:
-
You can use your mouse to click the value.
-
You can press the up and down arrows to find the value, then press Tab to accept the value and move on to the next field.
-
You can type the first few characters of the value. This filters the list to only matching results. This filters from the beginning of the value. It is not a keyword style search that queries anywhere in the value.
-
-
For date fields, you can click the calendar to choose the date or type it.
-
To stop applying attributes, click anywhere else in the map or press Esc. Either choice applies your edits. You should still save your design as a whole periodically, as usual.
-
IMPORTANT:
-
Attribute changes are included in your design’s Undo and Redo “stack,” which is the behind the scenes list of edits. This means you can Undo and Redo attribute changes.
-
If you click Undo after making attribute changes, those changes are undone even if the Component Information pane is not visible. Be aware that if you are clicking Undo and nothing appears to be changing in the map, perhaps you are undoing attribute changes behind the scenes.
-
-
The Send to Placement tool does include your attribute edits. In other words, if you add a component and then make 5 attribute changes, when you use the Send to Placement tool those, 5 attribute changes are also included in subsequent components.
-
Attribute fields not calculated or driven by the application can have default values set at a company-wide level. If you find you are populating the same field repeatedly with the same value, talk to your administrator about possibly setting defaults.
-
While you cannot change the order of the fields in the application, the order can be changed at a company-wide level. Talk to your administrator if you need to change the field order.
