Export Design to CAD

The Export Design to CAD tool saves your design components as a CAD file.

  • It saves all the components you have added to your design (in other words, everything listed in your Project pane). It does not save existing features that were brought into your map or any basemap elements.

  • The design components are grouped as layers in the CAD file. For example, if your design included structures, conductors, fuses, and transformers (or mains, valves, service pipes, and meters), the CAD file would have four layers, one per component type.

The application supports saving as the following CAD formats:

  • Drawing Exchange Format (.dxf)

  • AutoCAD file (.dwg)

  • MicroStation file (.dgn)

To Export Design to CAD, follow these steps:

  1. Work on your design as needed, then Save.

  2. Click the Export Design to CAD tool.

  3. Choose a file location, name, and file type. Then, click Save.
