Working with the Canvas

After choosing a pre-defined print template, you can still make modifications to the look and feel of the printable map.

Interacting with the Map while on the Print Tab

Even though you are on the Print tab, the map itself is still navigable and behaves the same way as on the Design tab.

  • Panning and Zooming the Map

To change the map extent, use the mouse wheel to zoom in or out, and click and drag the mouse to pan. These are the same actions as on the Design tab.

TIP: To zoom in and out by smaller steps (in other words, by a smaller degree), press and hold the Ctrl key while rolling the mouse wheel.

  • Interacting with the Design Components on the Map

Even when on the Print tab, you can still view CUs on the Project pane and Component Information pane. For existing CUs in the Project pane, you can even perform updates such as Change Number/Length, add Non-Drawn CUs, and Change CUs.

  • Resizing and Moving the Map

You can change the size of the map itself and clicking and dragging any of the blue nodes that surround it.

Further, to move the map, hover your cursor along the outer edge of the map, then click and drag it into a desired position.

The Print tab contains other tools to assist with the map canvas.

Tool

Use

Print Map

Sends the construction print to be printed.

Custom Print Tools

If your company has configured Custom Print Tools, they are available in the drop-down to the right of the Print Map icon. If you are an administrator, see the Solution Center topic Print Tools for more information.

Print Resolution

This drop-down contains a list of print resolutions. The default resolution is 300 DPI.

Attach Construction Drawing

This prints your map (or if present, multiple map pages) to a PDF, then attaches the PDF to your design within the Designer Storage Service.

IMPORTANT: This tool is available only if your company has an integration with ArcFM Mobile XI . The PDF can be passed along from your design and into a Mobile workflow, such as a performing as-built markups

  • This does not create a PDF that you can download. For that, use the Print Map tool, and choose a PDF creator application as the printer.

  • If you click Attach Construction Drawing more than once, the application replaces the existing PDF with the most recent PDF.

  • If you do not have any map pages, this tool is disabled.

Change Page Orientation or

Toggles the page between portrait and landscape orientation. When toggling, all existing map and print elements remain together and the same size. They do not grow or shrink proportionally to match the new orientation.

Paper Size

This drop-down contains available page sizes. When changing the page size, all existing map and print elements remain together and the same size. They do not grow or shrink proportionally to match the new page size.

Zoom to Extent

This shows the full extent of the canvas. In other words, it centers the map canvas and zooms the canvas to fill the application interface. It does not affect the zoom of the map on the canvas, just the canvas itself.

Zoom Slider

Each click incrementally zooms in or out on the canvas. It does not affect the zoom of the map on the canvas, just the canvas itself.

Scale Size

or

Scale Size

This drop-down contains a list of predetermined scales for the map extent (how zoomed in or out the map is). You can also click the map once and use the mouse wheel to zoom in or out. In that case, the map scale automatically adjusts to show the current map extent. Finally, you can also type in a number, even one that is not in the drop-down by default.

Depending on your implementation, your scale might be “translated” into units of measure, as seen in the second image. This configuration is described in the Solution Center Guide topic Electric Options or Gas Options.

Fixed Scale On or Off

Once you have the map at a desired scale, click Fixed Scale to lock it in. You can still pan the map at that point, but you can no longer zoom in or out. This is an optional tool, but after getting your map at a desired scale, it is a nice way to protect it from accidental mouse wheel movements.
