Working with Print Elements

Each item you place on the construction print is a print element. Some elements are provided for you by your administrator, and others you can add and create on the fly.

The available map elements include:

  • Dynamic Image: This is an image placeholder on the canvas, and you drag and drop an image from your device onto the placeholder to occupy that space on the canvas.

  • Information Grid: This is a table with rows and columns. After adding the grid, you can type text or numbers in the grid cells.

  • Map: You can have multiple maps on a single canvas. Typically, you use different Design Styles on the various maps to highlight certain design features or to view the same design in two or three different ways. Maps can be re-sized independently, and they can also have different zoom levels.

  • Overview Map: This is an inset map that shows the extent of the design map within a larger context. In other words, it is typically a zoomed out map showing a much larger area, and the design area is called out by a rectangle that lines up with the zoomed in design map.

  • Scale: This is a text box in which you can type the map scale. An administrator can pre-type the scale so that it is quicker for you to add to a canvas.

  • Static Image: This is a provided image designed for quick placement. Common examples include your company logo, north arrows, and checklists. You can re-size the image, but you cannot change the image itself.

  • Text Block: This is a pre-formatted text box. It can include default text added by an administrator, or it can be empty. Either way, you can type information in the box.

The names of the actual elements differ for every company given you and your administrator’s preferences. It is recommended to use clear, descriptive names so that end users know what they are adding when using the drop-down.

IMPORTANT: There is no undo function while working on the Print tab. The Undo/Redo buttons apply only to design work.

Text

Select any item in the list to place a pre-formatted text box. When you click the item, it is automatically placed in the center of your view. After placement, you can edit the text, text format, and text box format. The names in the following image are just examples.

Images

There are two types of images on the canvas.

  • A static image is provided for you for quick placement, like your company logo. Click its name from the drop-down and position as needed. The names in the following image are just examples.

  • A dynamic image is a placeholder for any image you want to add. If you do not yet have an image placeholder on your canvas, start at Step 1. If you already see the placeholder on the canvas, start at Step 2.

    1. Click the button. Notice a placeholder for the image appears on the canvas.

    2. On your device, locate the desired image using Windows Explorer.

    3. Drag and drop your image from Windows Explorer onto the placeholder. The placeholder supports png, jpg, bmp, and gif (static gif, not animated).

    4. Adjust the position, size, and shape as needed.

Title Blocks

A title block is a grid of fields that identifies your design and provides important details. It is akin to a small table embedded with the canvas. The names in the following image are just examples.

You can type within the text boxes, format them with standard font, color, and size options.

The Print tab contains other tools to assist with print elements.
