Replace Conductor: Set Upstream and Downstream
In your GIS, the conductors are often broken into small sections. So, when you re-conductor a long stretch of service, it can be time intensive to select all the small, individual sections when in reality they are all part of the same continuous conductor.
To remediate this problem, the application provides you an opportunity to extend the length of the replacement to include similar upstream and downstream conductors.
-
The process starts the same as any replacement. Right-click the conductor, then choose Replace.
-
At that point, the interface provides you an opportunity to extend the replacement by setting the upstream stopping point. The application always starts with the upstream direction.
When setting the upstream stopping point, keep the following in mind:
-
The initial section of conductor (the one you right-clicked) is always included in the replacement.
-
Move your cursor upstream to extend the replacement. Do not click yet, just move the cursor and the application automatically updates the replacement section.
-
You can still pan and zoom while setting the upstream stopping point. To pan the map, click and hold, then drag the map into position.
-
Press Esc to cancel the replacement.
-
While setting the upstream stopping point, the following tool tips guide your work:
-
Set Upstream: You are currently choosing where to stop the replacement in the upstream direction.
-
Mismatch: The stopping point does not extend into a mismatched conductor. Mismatches occur because of different phase counts or different conductor types (overhead vs. underground, for example).
-
No Path: There is not a contiguous way to connect your initial conductor to the current position of your cursor. This could be because your cursor is actually downstream of the initial section, or because the path would need to branch off your current replacement section. The tool does not support branched replacements.

Once you have arrived at your upstream stopping point, click once.
-
Once you click to set the upstream stopping point, the interface changes to now guide you through setting the downstream stopping point.
-
The procedure to set the downstream stopping point is the same as the upstream. Move your cursor to extend the replacement in the downstream direction.
-
The same tool tips as described above help guide your work.
-
-
Once you arrive at your downstream stopping point, click once.
Once you click to set the downstream stopping point, the CU Search appears, allowing you to choose the proper install CU. The same install CU is used for all replaced sections.
