Navigation Tools

Ease of navigation is just one highlight of Designer XI .

Pan

  • While viewing the map, simply click and drag the mouse to pan. This works even when you have another design tool active and even if you are mid-sketch. There are only a few exceptions to this:

    • When you have the Select by Rectangle tool active, any click and drag activates the Select tool instead of panning.

    • When you have the Remove Existing Components tool active, any click and drag starts the removal “paint” procedure against existing components.

TIP: If you need to pan while using the Remove Existing Components tool, press Ctrl to temporarily disable the tool, then drag the mouse to pan. When you let go of Ctrl, the tool is active again.

Zoom

  • To zoom, use the scroll wheel on your mouse. Pushing the wheel forward zooms in and pulling the wheel back zooms out.

  • As an alternative, press Ctrl and the plus sign (Ctrl +) to zoom in, and Ctrl and the minus sign (Ctrl -) to zoom out.

  • Further, press Shift, then drag your cursor to create a “zoom to” box. The map zooms to the area you outlined with your box.

Previous/Next Extent

  • The Previous and Next Extent tools are located in the lower right-hand corner of the application. Click the Previous Extent tool to move back to a previously-viewed location on the map. Alternatively, if you have moved back to a location and want to return, use the Next Extent tool.

  • As an alternative, press Alt+Left for the previous extent, and Alt+Right for the next extent.
