Available Duct Trace

The Available Duct Trace button is found on the Conduit Manager Toolbar. Click the Available Duct Trace button to open the Find Available Duct Paths pane.

The top portion of this pane pertains to the network of duct banks and vaults within your domain. Before you can locate available duct space for your project, you must build your duct network. The drop-down displays two choices: Entire network or Current map extent. Entire network includes all duct banks and vaults within your domain, while Current map extent includes only the duct banks and vaults within your current map view.

  1. Make your network selection and click the Build Network button. The # of Duct Banks and # of Vaults in network are calculated.

When selecting Current map extent, a pink border is drawn around the current map view.

  2. Now that the duct network is built, you can choose a starting point and ending point for your potential path through the existing duct banks.

Select a Path Start in one of two ways. If you know the ID of the duct you would like to start with, you can find it in the drop-down list. You can also use the select button to the right of the drop-down to select the starting duct feature in the map. The Path start point shows within a purple circle in the map.

NOTE: Features that can be selected for start and end points are displayed by the field configured with the Conduit FacilityId field model name. This can be found in the Editor plugin of Solution Center on the Editor Maps tab. Select the operational map you’re interested in, and locate the Select a Domain Network to configure drop-down field. Select the Structure domain from the list, and in the Fields tab, you can see the ConduitFacilityId. If the configured field is not populated in the dataset, the features are displayed by their GUID in the Available Duct Trace pane.

  3. Repeat this process with the Path end point. Once selected, it displays in the map within a green circle.

  4. Choose the number of ducts needed to house the cable for this project.

  5. Provide the maximum path length of cable that you have for this project. This path length filters the results to potential paths shorter than this length.

  6. Provide the maximum number of path results to display, e.g., if you want only three paths to choose from, type 3 in this field.

  7. Click the Find Available Duct Paths button to see your results. Use the Clear all button to clear the pane of selected values and start anew.

NOTE: The path results display in the bottom portion of the pane. Each potential path displays with a different trace color starting with red, blue, green, etc. In the example shown below, you see two potential duct paths. When you select the proposed path in the pane, that path is shown in the map in red or blue.
