Phase Swap
When it becomes necessary to balance the load along a feeder, sometimes the features along that feeder require their Phase Designation to change, e.g., from Phase A to Phase B. Phase Swap provides a streamlined way to quickly locate affected features and instantly change the Phase Designation. Phase Swap is available on single-phase features only. Phase Swap begins at any electric feature in the map, runs an upstream trace, finds the nearest three phase feature ending the trace, and then chooses the first single phase feature downstream to designate as the starting point. It then selects all of the downstream features on the lateral.
There are three ways to access Phase Swap functionality: a selected feature in the map; on the Attributes tab; and the ArcFM Editing toolbar.
In the Map
Select some features in the map and right-click. At the bottom of the right-click menu, click Phase Swap.
Phase Swap Button
At the top of your map screen, click ArcFM, and in the Editing group, click the Phase Swap button.
Attributes Tab
If you already have features selected in the map, click on the Attributes tab. Right click on a feature, and from the right-click menu, click Phase Swap.
All three methods open the Phase Swap tab within the Catalog pane.
Once the Phase Swap tab is open and populated with features, you see there are several actions available. The Start field shows the ObjectID of the starting point.
To the right of ObjectID, several buttons are available:
-
— Select changes the selection to the starting point feature.
-
— Zoom to zooms to the extent of the starting point feature.
-
— Flash draws attention to the starting point feature with a quick flash.
The Load selected button selects a starting point feature based upon your current
selected set of features. If you change that selected set, click Load
selected to calculate a new starting point feature. If only one feature
is selected, Load selected chooses a starting point based on that
one feature. If multiple features are selected, Load selected chooses
a starting point feature using the lowest ObjectID within that selected
set.
The next group of information displayed tells you the Current Phase of the set of features on which you’re about to perform Phase Swap. Assign Phase displays a drop-down menu from which you can select other single phases. Other information displayed includes the Operating Voltage, and the Customer Count affected by this proposed change. In the lower portion of the Phase Swap tab, you see Features to Swap and Features to Skip. These display the number of features Phase Swap allows you to edit. One reason features might show up in the Features to Skip section are that those features are three-phase.
There are two buttons to the right of this:
-
— Select All Features selects all the features in the Phase Swap tab.
-
— Zoom to Extent zooms the map to the extent of the features in the Phase Swap tab.

Phase Swap runs and displays a notification.
-
If you would like to confirm the changes that have been made to your selected set of features, click on the Attributes tab and review as necessary.
