Create Duct Flag

The Create Duct Flag tool creates an easy to read diagram to view a duct bank from the ArcGIS Pro map view without having to use the Conduit Manager Layout Editor pane. The diagram is referred to as a "flag" because it sticks up from the Duct Bank line much like a flag does.
  1. Click the Create Duct Flag button on the Conduit Manager toolbar.
  2. Click the map once on the duct bank structure line where you'd like the duct flag to start. A preview for the duct flag displays. You can move your mouse around to adjust the placement.
  3. When the duct flag is where you want it, single click a second time to place it.

NOTE: The tool may take a few moments to create the features for the duct flag. If you inadvertently double click when placing the duct flag or single click before the duct flag preview appears, an error message is generated indicating that no duct bank has been selected. Essentially, the double click places you back at the beginning of the create duct flag operation and the tool is looking for you to select a duct bank. If this error happens, just start the create duct flag again, this time carefully using two single clicks.

  4. After completion, the tool creates two different types of features:
    • Structure Boundary: Duct End Flag - these represent each of the ducts flowing into the duct bank, one feature for each of the ducts present.
    • Structure Boundary: Duct Flag Outline - this is the outer limit of the duct bank as drawn with the Create Duct Bank tool.

An annotation also displays with the DuctID for each of the occupied ducts, as well as other useful information for cables present within the ducts. Annotations for unoccupied ducts are not displayed to save space on the map. The default position for annotations is to the upper right of the duct flag.

If the duct flag layout display is too big or small for your liking, you can adjust the Duct Flag Magnification in Conduit Manager Options.

In the Conduit Manager Options pane, you can set the Duct flag magnification to a decimal number < 1000. After you change this setting, you need to recreate the duct flag for the new magnification value to apply to the view. Learn more about the Prompt for Z Values.

Each Duct End Flag is symbolized according to its occupancy status. The image below shows the default symbology, however these symbols can be changed to your preferences.

When the duct bank is modified in the Layout Editor—for example, when ducts are added or removed—those updates are automatically reflected in the duct flag after the edits are saved. An out‑of‑the‑box (OOTB) Attribute Rule also ensures that feeder information on the duct flags stays up to date. See the Attribute Rules topic for additional information about this rule.

If multiple duct banks are found at the first map click location when you place a duct flag, a dialogue opens to show you a list of the duct bank lines found at the selected location.

When you select a duct bank in the list, a line graphic is shown in the map to indicate the geographic path of that selected duct bank.

After you click Place Flag, click again in the map where the flag should go. You see the outline rectangle for the flag, which moves as you move the mouse around the map so that you can see its final placement when you left-click in the map. A single duct bank’s worth of ducts is represented by the resulting set of new GIS features.

If you click Cancel, your recent flag placement is removed and you can click elsewhere in the map to place a flag. Additionally, clicking Cancel clears all graphics from the map that were showing for the duct bank selection.

Duct Flag Leader Lines

Duct Flag Leader Lines are an optional feature used to indicate the duct bank associated with a duct flag. To create a Leader Line, right click near your duct flag and select Create Leader Line from the context menu. Click in the map to place the line. Move your cursor and single click once more to complete the line drawing. This creates a Duct Flag Leader Line feature.

The Duct Flag Leader Line feature looks like the following image:

Delete Duct Flag

The Delete Duct Flag tool provides a way to delete the Duct Flag including all associated and contained features. To Delete a Duct Flag, right click on the Duct Flag and select Delete Duct Flag from the context menu.

NOTE: This also deletes any Leader Lines and Annotation associated with the Duct Flag.
