Editing a Session

The steps below walk you through making edits in Session Manager.

To ensure that you're already in a session, look for the Active Session icon near the top right corner of the ArcGIS Pro window. If the icon is green, you are currently in a Session Manager session. If the icon is grey, you are not in a session but are instead in Default. When you are in a session, hover your mouse over the icon to display a pop-up that provides the active session name.

  1. Click the Session Manager button to display the My Work tab. Click on an assignment in the list to see its session card. The session card shows details about the session such as name, description, history, and any details if the session has been rejected.
As an Editor, the My Work list shows assignments you are assigned to, and unassigned edit assignments.

  2. If an assignment isn’t assigned to you, click the Take Ownership Take Ownership button button to assign it to you. This can only be done with unassigned assignments.
  3. Select a session from the My Work list, then click the Open Session Open Session button button to start editing the session.
You can reconcile anytime during your session to receive updates that have occurred since the session and version were created. Use the Reconcile Version Reconcile Version button button to reconcile.
  4. Apply your edits to the session. Both the Save and Discard buttons are activated once an edit has been performed.
    • Click the Save Save button button to save any edits made since you opened the session or last saved.

    • Click the Discard Discard button button to remove all edits made since you opened the session or last saved.

  5. There are two ways to end a session: Close and Send.
    • The Close Close button button closes the session without sending the session for review. When you close a session, you are asked if you want to save if you haven’t already. Closing a session also saves the current extent of the map at the time the session closes.

    • The Send Send button button sends the session to the next state. For a three-state workflow, it creates an unassigned review assignment. For a two-state workflow, it creates an unassigned approval assignment. Prior to sending the session, you are asked if you want to save if you haven’t already. Sending a session also closes the session.

If you try to open a new session before closing your current session, Editor XI automatically closes your current session before opening the new one, so you are prompted to save your current session before closing it.
