Validation Assistant

The ArcFM Validation Assistant is your guide to finding and fixing Topological Validation errors that may occur during editing.

With Validation Assistant, you can do the following:

  • Group error features together by the origin and destination Asset Groups involved in the conflict.

  • Apply filtering to the Asset Type by clicking on the Asset Type that is deemed the correct feature to display all valid rules configured in the other feature’s Asset Group.

  • Click on the center of the error listing to list all valid rules to solve the validation error.

  • Zoom to or select the error features that have failed validation for further inspection.

Symbols represent the type of error present, which also provides a tip when you mouse over it.

When an error occurs that cannot be solved by finding a rule in the rule table, the Validation Assistant presents the name of the error and a link to the solution.

Validation Symbols

The symbols below show the symbols representing each of the validation rules.

Junction-Edge Rule violation

This indicates the error type can't be fixed using validation rules. A link to a matrix of Validation Errors is shown when the error is selected.

Invalid Association

Invalid Containment Association

Edge Junction Edge Rule violation

Junction-Junction Association error where there is invalid connectivity between point features.

Self-intersecting line error.

Feature is in unsupported structural attachment relationship.

The following is a common workflow:

  1. Sketch features of interest.
  2. Click the Validate command to open the ArcFM Validation Assistant pane.

If the sketched features fail validation, you are given a list of these features categorized by Asset Group.

  3. Zoom to or select the feature in review.
  4. Click on the specific error and view the list of Correct Connectivity associated with the Asset Type.

The list shows which rules create proper connectivity (i.e., the rules that are allowed between the two features).

Filtering by Asset Type provides a list of rules that successfully validates for said asset type.

If an AssetType has a terminal configuration, it shows under AssetType in ArcFM Validation Assistant.

  5. Modify the feature correctly. If you are presented with a large number of errors having similar type and condition, you should consider adding a new rule.
  6. Click the Validate button to check that the error is resolved.
