ArcFM Split Tool

Using the ArcFM Split Tool to place a device or a junction automatically splits a line at the placement location of that device or junction. It also assigns the phase of the line to the placed feature and handles terminal configuration of the split line features.

Non-spatial Electric Containment Data Model

If you are using the Non-spatial Electric Containment Data Model, keep in mind these items:

  • You must have the E:Switch network category configured for this tool to work.

  • Templates for Subnetwork Controllers aren’t currently supported for this tool.

  • This tool also doesn’t support group and preset templates.

The following steps walk you through using the Split Tool:

  1. Select a device on the Create Features pane.

  2. Click the ArcFM Split Tool button.

  3. Move the cursor to point to the line feature on which you want to place the device or junction. When the tool is active, it snaps to features according to network connectivity settings.

This tool won’t allow a new feature to be set at the end of a line or on an existing device. If you attempt to place a new feature at the end of a line, a dialogue displays:

If you attempt to place a new feature on an existing device or junction, you are notified that it can’t be placed:

The tool doesn't allow new features to be placed on a line that has phases set to None or Unknown. If you try to place a new feature on a line with phases set to None or Unknown, a dialogue message displays:

  4. Click to place the feature in the middle of a line. The line is split, the device is placed at that junction of where the line was split, and the phase of the line is also assigned to the new device.

TIP: The ArcFM Split Tool doesn’t work on curved lines.

    Non-spatial Electric Containment Data Model

When using the Non-spatial Electric Containment Data Model, take note of the following when using this tool:

    • If the line being split is a bank (it has E:Has Connected Units network category), it must have units assigned or the line won’t split. A dialogue message displays if this happens:

    • If the switch has network category E:Has Connected Units assigned, the switch and the line being split must have the same number of phases. If the number of phases doesn't match on these features, a dialogue message informs you that they’re incompatible:

    • If the E:Has Connected Units network category is configured, the phase units are set when the feature is split.

    • If E:Has Connected Units is not configured, the phases are set on the feature itself upon split.

    • This tool assigns proper values to the FromDeviceTerminal or ToDeviceTerminal of each line feature that has an end coincident with the snap location.

    • When E:Has Connected Units is configured, the terminal path of the switch is set to None. If it is not configured, the terminal path is set to All.

    • If E:Has Connected Units has been configured for the switch, junction-junction associations are created between units to each of the feature terminals for all non-spatial unit objects contained by the newly created feature.

When the process is complete, a dialogue displays indicating you’re done:
