Component Name

As you place components, the application automatically assigns names. To change the name, simply click the name of the component to edit. A text box displays, and when you are finished changing/updating the name, press Enter. Construction prints, tombstones, and other references use this name.

You can change the name for the following components:

• Node

• Power Supply

• Self Terminating Taps

• Terminator

• Amplifier

  • Amplifiers follow an automatic, default naming convention as described in the topic Amplifier Naming.

    IMPORTANT: If you do not change the amplifier name, it continues to follow this automatic naming convention to incorporate subsequent changes to the network path. However, if you change the amplifier name, this stops the automatic naming convention. In this case, on tombstones, the amplifier no longer references the leg it appears.
    TIP: If you have changed the amplifier name (thus, stopping the automatic naming convention) but then you wish to return to the automatic naming convention, simply delete the entire name and press Enter. The application generates a new name following the convention and maintains the name automatically from that point forward.

Designer HFC does not check for uniqueness of this name, so ensure the name you choose will not cause confusion.
