Place Powering
This tool helps you quickly and easily hook up power components. Although it has a similar workflow as the Place RF Network tool, it differs in that you use it in situations where no RF signal is present.
The following two are components available for selection when using this tool:
First Component
-
Any empty port
-
Any port on any component type that is currently connected to another component
-
An input or output port
IMPORTANT: This tool currently does not support targeting a structure as the first step.
Second Component
-
Any empty port
-
Any port on any component type that is currently connected to another component
-
Any valid structure, with an exception.
TIP: A second target is not selectable in the following situations:-
No component is found.
-
The second target is the same component as the first target (i.e., trying to connect the component to itself).
-
The second target is on the same structure as the first target.
-
Both the first and second target are input ports.
-
The first target is an input port, and the second target is a structure.
-
Demarcation Point
These are viewed as an insert scenario. However, rather than a power inserter, this tool automatically places a splice at the demarcation point.
Select a Target
In an insert scenario, a power inserter is inserted on the target port. Upon placing the power inserter, it is automatically selected as the current target and you can then select the necessary port.
In a direct connection scenario, selecting the first target and then moving to the second target shows the same proposed layout graphic that is visible when connecting items with the RF tool.
MDU Behavior
While inside an MDU, you can perform all work functions as if you were outside an MDU. Additionally, when the second target is at an MDU boundary, the tool inserts a splice rather than a power inserter.
Power Supply Name
When you insert or replace a power supply, the application automatically prompts you to type a name. Power supply names are required, and you cannot place a power supply without providing a name. You can change the name later by either right-clicking the power supply and choosing Rename or double-clicking the name in the Component tab.
