Overview

Modbus is an unencrypted communication protocol. RS-485 cannot transmit encrypted data using communication protocol.

To avoid malicious use of the sensitive information that will be transmitted through an internal network, follow the instructions:

• Segment the network physically or logically..

• Restrict access to the network using standard controls such as firewalls.

• For transmitting data over an external network, encrypt protocol transmissions over all external connections using an encrypted tunnel, TLS wrapper or a similar solution.
