Operating Hours Counter

The Operating hours counter is a feature in the SpaceLogic KNX, Secure, Switch/Blind Master device that helps you track how long a relay or motor has been running.

Runtime values are stored persistently, so they survive power loss or device restart.

NOTE: This feature is available only on devices running firmware version 4.0 or higher.

Key Features

  • Track runtime per channel
Check the total operating time of each channel directly in your KNX visualization or ETS software. The counter increases only when the relay is actively switched on.

  • Persistent storage
Runtime values are stored persistently, surviving power loss or device restart.
The initial value is always 0, unless manually set via a dedicated group object.

  • Maintenance alerts
Set a runtime limit (e.g., 5000 hours). When the device reaches this threshold, it sends an alarm notification.
You can reset or acknowledge it by writing to the reset object.

    Reset after equipment replacement
Use a reset object to start the counter from zero, making it easy to manage maintenance cycles.

  • Manual runtime adjustment
Update the runtime manually (e.g., after replacing a lamp) using a dedicated object—no need to re-download the ETS project.

  • Fixed reporting interval
The counter value is sent either when the runtime increases by one hour or after device startup.

Group Objects

  • Operating hours object shows current runtime.

  • Operating hours limit set object allows manual setting of the runtime limit. A written value takes priority over the parameter. If the value written is zero, the object reverts to the parameter-defined limit.

  • Operating hours limit reached object – ON when runtime exceeds limit.

  • Operating hours limit reset object resets runtime to 0. This object also resets the alarm (Operating hours limit reached).

Use Cases

Lighting Maintenance in Residential Projects
Track how long lights have been on. When the runtime exceeds a set value (e.g., 5000 hours), an alarm is triggered. After replacing the lamp, the counter can be reset without needing to reprogram the device.

Facility Management in Commercial Buildings
Maintenance teams can monitor runtime across multiple devices and plan replacements or inspections based on actual usage, improving efficiency and reducing downtime.

Energy Monitoring in Smart Homes
Homeowners can track how long specific circuits or appliances have been active, helping them understand usage patterns and optimize energy consumption.
