Change Phase

The Change Phase tool is a quick way to modify the phase of design components.

When you snap a design component to an existing energized component and a phase swap is possible, the Change Phase tool appears as an option on the click wheel. A phase swap would be possible, for instance, when snapping a single- or two-phase conductor to an existing three-phase conductor. However, no phase change is necessary when snapping a single-phase conductor to another single-phase conductor. In this case, the new conductor simply takes on the existing phase, so the Change Phase tool does not appear on the click wheel.

Once selected, the Change Phase tool traces the circuit and swaps the phase for all connected (snapped) components both upstream and downstream. This may be useful for balancing among phases on a multi-phase component or to fix a mistake when selecting the phase for a new component. In the example below, all components downstream from the three-phase conductor are swapped from the A phase (red) to the C phase (blue).

NOTE: Keep in mind that the Designer XI application maintains an in-memory representation of the network (current state) to enable quick recalculation of fields edited in the design. The Component Information pane shows the updated phasing immediately after the Change Phase is complete.
