Replace vs. Modify Equipment

The application provides different ways to replace existing components depending upon the scenario.

  • Replace tool on the Design tab toolbar: This tool can be used to replace all parts of the component simultaneously. It can be used to downgrade components (reduce number of phases) or upgrade components (increase number of phases). It can perform a full upgrade or downgrade while also giving you the ability to change CUs for any part of the existing components.

IMPORTANT: The Replace tool remembers the most recently used CU, and that CU persists with the tool for additional use. To change the CU, press F (or click your middle mouse button). This brings up the CU Search.

  • Replace from the Click Wheel: This is the same tool as the Replace tool on the Design tab toolbar. It is provided on the Click Wheel for convenience.

IMPORTANT: If you use the Replace tool from the Click Wheel and change the phasing in an indeterminate way, the application prompts you to choose phasing. For example, if you right-click a single phase and Replace, and then you choose a two-phase CU as the install, the application asks you to choose the two phases you require.

  • Modify Equipment: This replaces a part of the existing component. For example, it replaces one wire in a three-phase conductor, or it replaces one can in a three-phase transformer.

    • The tool requires symmetry among the install CUs. For example, if you replace one transformer can with a new CU, the other cans are assigned the same install CU.

    • The tool allows you to remove a part of an existing component without adding an install CU.

    • The tool allows you to install a part of a component if that part did not already exist. However, the CU must maintain symmetry as stated above. For example, if upgrading a single phase to three phase, the phases you add default to the current CU for the phase that already exists. If you change the CU for the new phases, the phase that already exists also changes to match your new install CU.
