Electric Utilities

The topics in this help chapter apply to electric utilities, or in the case of utility-neutral functions, use electric assets as their example.

A couple of things to keep in mind for electric utilities:

  • The Designer XI application always shows the current state of the network, including any edits you’ve made to the design. Behind the scenes, it keeps an in-memory version of that state so it can quickly recalculate every change—things like phasing, operating voltage, voltage drop, transfer loading, and load balance. In other words, what you see on the map and in the Component Information pane is the latest information based on the saved design plus all edits you’ve made so far.

  • A basemap is required for the application to be able to open a design. If you are online, then it can stream a basemap. However, if you are planning on doing work offline, then you must download a package while online. Go to My Work > Settings to download a package that includes a basemap.
