Create a New Work Request

The Designer XI application can support creating a new work request on the fly. The Work Requester workflow is included as an example that can be copied by your administrator into a new custom workflow for your organization, if desired. The workflow can be used whether your implementation is integrated with a Work Management System (WMS) or not. Work requests made using this dynamic workflow are fully functional and equivalent to requests created in other manners (e.g., integrated WMS) once active.

If enabled by your administrator, the actions to create a gas or electric work request appear on the My Work tab by clicking the ellipsis below the Search field.

NOTE: The create work request options are only available while online. The menu options are greyed out when working in offline mode.

Once you click a Work Requester option, enter the necessary information in the pop-up dialog to create a new work request. There are slight variations in the required information based on whether you are creating a gas or electric request. There may be additional fields as well, if added by your administrator.

The basic information needed includes:

  • Name: Enter unique text for this required field that helps identify the new work request among the list of all work requests for you and your organization.

  • Description: This optional field can be useful when differentiating between requests or trying to recall the details of a request later.

  • Address: If a valid address within your network feature service is provided, the application zooms to this address when the map is opened. The address field can always be modified in the request after initial creation.

  • X and Y: Valid XY coordinates within the network feature service extent take precedence over a valid address, if both are provided. The application zooms to these coordinates when the map is opened.

  • Feeder ID/Subnetwork: This electric-only field should include a valid feeder ID (GN) or subnetwork (UN). This field is required unless the Create Empty Design check box is ticked. On open, the feeder ID or subnetwork identifies what data to extract from the GIS. If no valid address or XY coordinate is provided, the design opens zoomed to the default coordinates of the network feature service initial extent. For GN implementations, you can include multiple feeder IDs separated with a comma delimiter. UN implementations accept only one subnetwork per work request.

  • Create Empty Design: Tick this check box to create an empty design, utilizing the default coordinates for the network feature service initial extent.

  • Design Notes and Work Request Notes: Optional fields included with the out-of-the-box work request option.

It is possible to create a design with only the required fields. You should receive a pop-up message indicating the work request was successfully created using default coordinates. For a gas design, the map opens zoomed to the default center of the network feature service initial extent. If that location includes some of a gas region, elements of that region are pulled into the design. For an electric design, both Name and Feeder ID/Subnetwork are required. So, if neither a valid Address or XY coordinates are provided, the electric design opens zoomed to the identified feeder or subnetwork.

If you ticked the Create Empty Design check box when creating your request, the design zooms to the center coordinates of the network feature service initial extent when opened. Since this option does not provide a valid address, XY coordinates, or Feeder ID/Subnetwork (electric only), no data can be extracted from the GIS. You can use the Add Data tool to add a feeder or subnetwork after the design is created.

Give the Work Requester a couple of minutes to process creation of the work request. Then click the Refresh icon to see your new request on the My Work tab. If the request doesn’t appear after a short period of time, there may be useful information for troubleshooting issues in the Solution Center Designer plugin > Designs tab where all designs for the tenant are listed. New designs created using this on-the-fly work requester are assigned to the current user by default and may be reassigned using Design Actions, if desired.
