CU Tags

Designer XI is integrated with your company’s Work Management System (WMS). Tags provide an additional (and optional) method to communicate information to your WMS. For example, a CU might be in a particular zone or designated area that affects cost calculations. Tags are sent to the WMS along with the CUs so that it understands how to calculate them appropriately.

Tags can be “constrained” or “unconstrained.”

  • Constrained: You provide a list of tag values, and the end user may choose from that list of tags. You can further configure the Tag Category to limit the user to one tag or allow multiple tags from within the category.

  • Unconstrained: You do not provide any tag values. Instead, the end user is able to type in the appropriate value. You can further configure the Tag Category to limit the user to one typed value or allow multiple typed values.

To add a new Tag Category, follow these steps:

  1. Click the Add button.

  2. Type a descriptive name for the Tag Category. This name is visible in the client application, so ensure it is understandable for users.

  3. If desired, check the box to Allow Multiple Tags.

    1. Allowed: The user can add more than one tag from the category to a CU.

    2. Not Allowed: The user can add only one tag from the category to a CU.

  4. Choose a Color.

  5. Decide if the Tag Category should be constrained or unconstrained (see the introduction of this topic for an explanation of the difference between the two).

    • If this Tag Category should be unconstrained, do not add any tags. Instead, click Save at this point. The Tag Category allows end users to type in their own value or values.

    • If this Tag Category should be constrained, continue the steps below.

  6. Near “Tags,” click the Add button.

  7. Type a descriptive name for the tag. This name is visible in the client application, so ensure it is understandable for users.

  8. Click the Add button again to type another tag.

  9. Continue to add tags.

NOTE: Do not worry about the order when creating the tags. Once you save, they are re-sorted in alphanumeric order.

  10. Click Save when finished.
