Work Requester Workflow

The Designer XI application can support creating a new work request on the fly. The Work Requester workflow is included as an example that can be copied by your administrator into a new custom workflow for your organization, if desired. The workflow can be used whether your implementation is integrated with a Work Management System (WMS) or not. Work requests made using this dynamic workflow are fully functional and equivalent to requests created in other manners (e.g., integrated WMS) once active.

If enabled by your administrator, the actions to create a gas or electric work request appear on the My Work tab by clicking the ellipsis below the Search field.

NOTE: The create work request options are only available while online. The menu options are greyed out when working in offline mode.

To enable the Work Requester workflow:

  • Open Solution Center > Workflows plugin > Studio > Designer Client.

  • Click the View Examples option.

  • Select the Backstage Tool - Create Electric Work Request example or the similarly named gas example.

  • You need to copy the example code into a new custom workflow. See the Solution Center > Workflows > Studio topic for more steps on creating a new custom workflow.

Keep in mind that end users must relaunch the Designer XI client application to see the new workflow.

You can also modify the required or optional fields that the end user completes as well as insert new Node Actions or otherwise alter the workflow graph. Check out the tips and guidance in the Solution Center > Workflows plugin > Studio set of topics.

In the example below, notice Design Status and Work Request Status fields have been added to the example electric work request adaptive card. Once an end user creates a work request using the modified workflow and opens the new request within the Designer XI application, the new fields and their populated values appear in the work request Design Details.
