Work Management System Role
At the very least, integrating Designer XI with a Work Management System (WMS) facilitates creating work
requests. Another common WMS connection to Designer XI associates WMS codes with components in the design—ensure
the WMS code field exists and is mapped in the Schema.xml
file to allow this functionality.
When evaluating the role of your WMS, consider the following Designer XI capabilities and how they could interact with your WMS:
-
Custom Tools can be written and incorporated into Designer XI to extend and customize the application for your unique use cases.
-
Work Location Tags and CU Tags provide additional (and optional) methods to communicate information to your WMS. For example, a Work Location might be in a particular zone or designated area that affects cost calculations for CUs grouped at that location. Tags are sent to the WMS along with the CUs so that it understands how to calculate them appropriately.
-
Backstage Custom Properties allow designers to save high-level attributes at the Design level and the Work Request level. These properties are sent along with the Design and Work Request through the workflow and can integrate with your company’s WMS.
