Compatible Unit
This tab provides information about the CUs in your system and helps you maintain their attributes.
For UN implementations, the combination of Layer Name plus the Asset Group and Asset Type defines an Asset Key. This key becomes important when determining where attributes came from and how they will be pushed in the GIS.
For GN environments, there are two options. You can configure a Subtype Key or use Layer and Subtype Rules.
Configuration of Subtype Keys for each CU is required for new GN implementations to enable Related Records functionality. A Subtype Key, or GUID, is assigned to each unique Layer plus Subtype code and is used in place of Layer and Subtype Rules. A Subtype Key is a unique identifier for a combination of a layer and Subtype Code in the GIS. Defining the Subtype Key enables the filtered drop-down values when configuring GIS Attributes.
Existing GN implementations will have the choice to remain with legacy Layer and Subtype Rules or move to Subtype Keys. Notice in the image below that no Subtype Key has been defined since Layer Name and Subtype are blank. The Designer XI application would need to pull attribute information from the GIS, relying on Layer and Subtype Rules. This configuration is still supported, but we strongly recommend migrating to Subtype Keys to take advantage of new functionality.
