Dead Lockout will help to prevent the ACR from automatically reclosing after a protection trip unless one or more of either the source side or load side terminals are live.
A Dead Lockout situation is one where an upstream circuit breaker has also tripped and is still open when the ACR reclose time expires. In this case reclosing the ACR would serve no purpose as fault may be upstream of the ACR instead of downstream.
