Phase Angle Synchronization

The third synchronizing variable – and probably the most important of the three – is the voltage phase angle difference. The phase difference between the voltages on each side of the open switchgear needs to be reduced to a small value prior to closing.

Otherwise a large MW flow increase will suddenly occur through the switchgear. Ideally, the voltage phase angle difference must be as close to 0° as possible before manually closing the switchgear.
